The story of dmc
If you have ever been to a Rugby game, you have probably noticed the initials DMC embroidered on the right armband of the players’ uniforms. For twenty years, Dr. Mark Campbell (DMC) served as the advisor to Rock Rugby. Dr. Campbell was an Assistant Professor for Academic Services and worked at SRU since 1995. He was the Chairperson of the department and was the Director of the Tutoring Center. He was an advocate for students and always put their needs first. They were the reason he loved his work.
As one former Rock Rugger said shortly after Dr. Campbell passed away: “DMC was an honest man. He was hyper-intelligent but never made you feel small. He never dismissed you, and if he was in his office, he always had time to talk. If I was ever in Slippery Rock, even years after I left, I would stop by his office, and was always greeted with a smile and a “Hey Dan! It’s so nice to see you!”. He was incredible and unique. I can confidently say that DMC is the reason I was able to graduate college.”
In honor of Dr. Mark Campbell, his parents purchased the uniforms for the 2020-2021 team. The idea of the DMC armband commemorating Dr. Campbell was from Coach Heasley and the team.
He will never be forgotten for his commitment to students, athletes, and especially Rock Rugby.
